Arizona in August, Hotter than Hades!
Aug 2008

We're back from Canada after seeing our kids and grandkids and we certainly had a good time visiting with them.  Grandma thought she was in heaven when every other word was "Grandma!" for two weeks.  We did all kinds of neat things with the 5 grandkids and we all had a ball.

We got back to Arizona around the 24th of the month and drove into a heat wave.  Temperatures have been right through the roof.  We haven't seen a day under 100 degrees since we got back and the humidity is also really high.  I got up the other morning at 2:30 and the temperature was 97 degrees.  On Sunday we got up and went for a long walk because the temperature at 7 am was only 89 degrees.

Hopefully we will soon see the temperatures start to drop.  I hope it's quicker than the price of fuel  dropping.

There's all kinds of bad news in the RV business but RVers are still traveling around the country.  They are staying longer at their destination and burning less fuel as a result, and they're still enjoying the RV lifestyle.  We hope your summer has been a good one and that you too are enjoying friends, family and good weather wherever you are.

MONEY SAVING IDEAS

In this economy, finding ways to save money and improve cash flow has become  much more than just a good idea.  For many people it is a necessity.  So how can the RVer save money?

One place we spend a lot of money is paying for chemicals to put into our holding tanks.  Many of you have installed Xtreme Vents on your vent caps on Xtreme Ventthe roof of your rig and have thus eliminated or reduced dramatically the cost of chemicals.  Using the Xtreme Vent on your rig will eliminate the need for chemicals.  At the cost of $15 a quart or $40 a gallon those chemicals can cost you a lot of money.  Go to the website and read more about why you don't need to use chemicals any longer and see the customer comments about the Xtreme Vent.  You will be glad you did.  Personally we haven't used chemicals since September of 2005.  I haven't stopped to calculate our savings but I know it is a lot of money!

Last month we introduced  the Water Saver as a way to conserve water in the RV.  One reader sent me a note and said this would save him money at home too and ordered a number of these units for his house as well as his rig.  He reminded me that his sewer rate is based on his water consumption rate, so using this device would save money on his water bill as well as his sewer rate.  I added, it would also save on heating the water with his hot water tank so there was a "3 way savings potential".

Some people that live on acreages get their water trucked in and put into a cistern.  These water saving ideas will definitely be a boon to them.
Water Saver1

The Water Saver will significantly reduce your water consumption!

When you need water just push on the straw like device that hangs down.  This turns the water on.   As soon as you remove the pressure on the straw, the water stops.  It also has the option of leaving the water running.

Reducing your water consumption also reduces the amount of water going into the holding tanks and also reduces the amount of water you need to heat.

Water Saver WaterTo have a continuous flow of water, push the circular piece on the straw all the way up to the top of the straw.  It takes a little practice to get the device to run continuously but it works well once you have figured it out.  This is the easiest water saving device I have ever used.  Put it on all your sinks and you will be really impressed as the water starts and stops immediately.  Less mess,  less cleanup and you are rewarded with substantial water savings with the Water Saver.

We were at the Airstream rally the first part of July and didn't have any Water Saver products with us, just my own personal unit.  I showed people the unit and told them how much we appreciated it and took orders.  These were the first RVers to see and buy the product.  Most people at the Airstream Rally bought 2, one for the kitchen and one for the bathroom.  Some of you with two sinks may wish to get three of them. For those people who bought them at the Airstream Rally, please drop me a note and let me know how they are working for you.

ToiletPaper RollAlso check out the High Pressure Shower Head that has been so popular.  This product triples the pressure and reduces your water consumption  30-70%.  Many people complain of poor water pressure in their homes as well as their RV's.  There will be no more complaints after using this shower head.

Also using our Shower Shut Off Valve will further save quantities of water, the heating of the water and the disposing of it.
